Neighbors and elected officials pack Lovettsville listening session against Valley North
On August 31, roughly 275 neighbors filled a standing-room-only listening session at the Lovettsville Game Protective Association to oppose the Valley North transmission line. State Senator Russet Perry and Delegate John McAuliff, who hosted the session, heard resident after resident describe what the line would do to their homes, their land, and their history. Lovettsville Mayor Christopher Hornbaker joined the opposition.
“I’m trapped in the home that is my dream, and I can’t leave. That is dismal,” said resident Anna Oakley. Ed Spannaus of the Lovettsville Historical Society warned that the proposed route would cut through an active cemetery. Delegate McAuliff told the crowd, “Tonight is going to yield legislative actions,” and lawmakers plan to introduce legislation in January.
